Do I invest in developing an APP?

Should I invest in an app? many companies are asking themselves this question. The answer is not necessarily YES or NO, it’s a bit more complex than that.

Every business needs mobile exposure, that is not questionable, the real question here is if an APP would be more beneficial than a responsive website.

In a previous post I explained the difference between an APP and a responsive website, and I listed the advantages of each one.

They are both tools to give a company exposure beyond the computer, but they do not have the same benefits.

Depending on your industry is where we can determine if an APP is the best option to increase your sales.

You must define your product or service in the following:

Can my product or service be purchased electronically
Are my target clientes able to make a purchase decision online?

If the answer is YES to these questions, then your company must certainly benefit from an app.

Let’s take a construction company as an example. For this industry clients are not likely to make a purchase from their website , nor is it likely to convence a buyer from an online visit.

In this case, all the features that an APP provides will not add any value. A construction company will benefit from an informative site with images and description of their services, and give the user a way to find the office location.

For this a responsive website will work perfectly.

Having said this, an APP very critical in today’s world, may not be as beneficial for some industries.
